Case Study #4
Challenge
- Warehouse and Trucking client with multiple storage facilities in the metro area required the
addition of support for Electronic Data Interchange to an inventory control system we designed, developed,
and put into production in 1995. In recent years, several national shippers
have begun to support Electronic Data Interchange with their warehouses. Due to the success of
the inventory control system, client contacted PC HotShots in March, 2004 to add EDI functionality
to their system.
Solution
-
Design and develop modules for the inventory control system, and a companion
EDI handler, to seamlessly integrate with the inventory data. The EDI system handles
different shippers' requirements within the x12 EDI specification. Can easily support
additional shippers who use the same standard.
- Design and develop connectivity and communications solutions to meet the needs
of each of the shippers involved.
- Support 940/945 (orders) and 943/944 (receipts) series' of forms for EDI.
- Provide visual indicators to inventory system that new orders or
notice of receipts have been processed.
- Develop enhanced reporting features.
- Design and Develop calendar multi-view within inventory control system to provide
warehouse personnel a quick view of either orders to be deliviered or picked up daily, or
orders that must be prepared for future delivery or pick up, as well as receipts expected on each day.
Benefits
- Our client reports a dramatic decrease in time required to
enter and validate orders.
- Our client reports a dramatic decrease in time required to
enter and validate receipts.
- Client reports significant increase in warehouse staffing efficiency.
