Case Study #2
Challenge
- Large medical complex with multiple legacy systems required desktop PC access to
the mainframe systems and data. With campuses spread across a wide area, each with
critical data access needs, constant monitoring is required to maintain
network and application performance for all campuses. Client required the use of
"off the shelf" products as much as possible.
Solution
- Create software to permit individual PCs to
act as mainframe workstations.
Software allows multiple sessions on
multiple hosts, with automated cut &
paste between the mainframe applications,
and includes mouse as light pen emulation
(as discussed in ComputerWorld Client/Server Journal,
February, 1994 - page 59).
-
Design, development & implementation
of Client/Server complex network timings reporting system showing
responses across sections of managed and unmanaged network. Results
are displayed in graphs and provides Information Services a real time tool to
proactively manage the network.
- Control commands of systems to be monitored is pushed to timing stations
through an automated distribution system.
The actual timings are performed by automated timing stations.
Benefits
- Significant increase in worker productivity through:
- Elimination of duplicate data entry
- Instant access to data stored in disparate systems
- Simple point & click data transfer between applications
- Significant increase in network and application uptime.
- Detailed timing reports allow proactive resource management.
- Detailed reporting allows precise staff scheduling to meet requirements.
